The GSDMC brings resources to students, parents, and educators in our local communities which are essential for connections, collaboration, and the betterment of mathematics education. We stand on a precipice of change with our transition to Common Core. This transition makes GSDMC more important than ever before. I look forward to the opportunity as president to bring my experiences and resources to our wonderful organization. I will use my experience as a Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) recipient, author, researcher, consultant, professor, previous GSDMC executive board member, and ICME-12 appointed mathematics assessment expert to continue the great work at the GSDMC.
I currently work as an adjunct professor at California State University San Marcos, a professor at American College of Education, and a high school mathematics teacher at Oceanside High School. I also periodically work for the United States Department of Education, National Science Foundation, California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, California Department of Education, Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, and LearnZillion. I also consult for various districts around the United States.

I have committed 19 years of service to students, staff, parents, and athletes within San Diego Unified School District - and have loved every minute of it! Wearing different hats in education as a wrestling coach, teacher, teacher-leader, ASB Advisor, Athletic Director, Dean of Students, and ultimately Vice Principal, I have gained the understanding that the title I currently posses is not what drives my work, or defines my character; rather, the relationships that I've built along the journey is where I have found value in my work. Having taught all levels of high school mathematics, I found my nitch teaching at Crawford High School in inner-city San Diego, looping with 9th-10th grade Algebra/Geometry. Transitioning to administration in 2010, I found myself at Serra High School as Vice Principal, and about to finish my first year serving as middle school vice principal at Sandley Middle, in San Diego. It is this experience in public education, and mathematics instruction, that I bring to support the vision of GSDMC. I have enjoyed the past two years serving as your VP of Membership, and look forward to our continued work together to better the experiences of students all throughout the county.
Secretary
The Secretary shall serve as secretary to the Executive Board and the President’s Advisory Cabinet, and shall maintain a record of the activities of the organization, and shall transmit this in good form to a successor. The Secretary shall also make the record of the activities of the organization available to the general membership, prepare correspondence for the organization, and carry out other duties as determined by the Executive Board.
Teresa McCarthy

The day I stop learning is the day I stop teaching. After 19 years of teaching, I still have more to learn and that is a very exciting thing! I’m committed to seeking opportunities to grow my craft and want to help grow our local math networks and tap into the talent that we have in San Diego through GSDMC. My teaching experience began in San Bernardino as a third-grade teacher for 3 years, then one year in Corona as a self-contained 6th grade teacher before settling in San Marcos where I taught 4 years as a middle school special education teacher and 10 years as a 5th grade general education teacher. This year, I’ve made the transition to 6th grade single-subject math in a new K-8 school. I also had the privilege this past year to get involved in GSDMC as one of the annual conference program co-chairs and would like to continue to contribute to the growth of the organization to help support teachers and our students in the community.
Treasurer
The Treasurer shall collect dues and provide the Vice President Membership with the names of the members in good standing. The Treasurer shall be the custodian of the council funds, expending them as authorized by the Executive Board, and prepare reports as required and requested. Prior to June 15 in even numbered years, the books shall be audited by a committee appointed by the Executive Board. An annual budget for the council shall be presented to the Executive Board for their approval and adoption at the first meeting of the year.
