San Diego Outstanding Mathematics Educator Awards
The Greater San Diego Math Council (GSDMC) announces the upcoming opening (2-29-2020) of the Outstanding Mathematics Educator Awards (OMEA) for year 2020. The purpose of this award is to find, recognize and award the absolute best Mathematics classroom teachers and/or Mathematics educators in San Diego County. We are truly after the very best! Please keep this in mind! The process includes a peer nominator that applies and fills out an online application for the prospective teacher or educator. The nominator also solicits an online submission from an administrator or supervisor of the candidate. A complete application will consist of both of these submissions. The timeline for the awards begins with the acceptance of applications through July 1, 2020. A GSDMC committee will review all applications in July and August and contact award winners in September. Our intent is to present the awards at the awardees’ school site or place of employment in the fall of the 20/21 school year. Our focus is to award an Outstanding Classroom Teacher award (Category A) for: primary, upper elementary, intermediate/junior high, senior high, and post secondary classroom teacher. Equally, we intend to award an Outside the Classroom Mathematics Educator award (Category B). The target audience for this award may include: Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSA’s), teacher supervisors, school site or district level leaders, technology support for the teaching of Mathematics, administrators, and others. Each award will include: $250 to be spent on the classroom/teaching support, free registration to a future GSDMC conference, lifetime membership to GSDMC, commemorative plaque, GSDMC conference recognition, and an invitation to a GSDMC conference group seminar session where we would like to hear about how the awardees became successful in teaching Mathematics. Please consider nominating that special classroom Mathematics teacher or educator for this award. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact the GSDMC Outstanding Mathematics Teacher Award Chair: Daryl Stermon at firstname.lastname@example.org or call/text him at 619-518-8560 (leave a message and he will get back to you ASAP). The online application links will be posted here on February 29, 2020, when the nomination window opens.
