Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Greater San Diego Math Council. Here are some positions we have in mind. In addition, if you have an idea or particular expertise that you would like to share, even if it is not explicitly listed below, let us know that too! GSDMC exists to advance math education in San Diego, and that can be done in many ways.
We are looking for one or more people to improve the communication and collaboration among San Diego's math teachers. In the past GSDMC has produced The Exponent, a quarterly newsletter with math education news and other information of interest to the community. But we are also looking to move beyond static forms of communication and leverage the power of social media.
While holding a two-day conference is worthwhile, we would also like to host Saturday morning membership meetings 1-2 times per semester featuring a notable guest speaker. Call it a "one-session conference" over breakfast. We would like someone to take this idea and run with it - create a short, casual, personal, and meaningful professional development opportunity where teachers can connect with each other.
Our annual conference is back! Rather than a few large and time-intensive roles, we are developing many smaller roles to make the work more manageable for all. Plus, it's more awesome to work with many different and talented San Diego teacher-leaders anyway!
Preservice Teacher Outreach
One of GSDMC's priorities is to support Preservice Teachers and sustain professional connections through to their full-time teaching positions. What should this look like? Let us know.
What would you like to see GSDMC do? How can we better support teachers, parents, and others in the math community? What role can you play in this? Share your ideas with us below.
