Cuyamaca Community College and Casio, Free Workshop

Cuyamaca College is co-hosting with Casio America a one day special hands-on workshop for college and high school math teachers. This is a free event with limited seating on June 13th starting at 9am at the Cuyamaca College.

A Casio Prizm Workshop

Session A: Building Statistical Understanding ( 9 am to 12 pm )
Session B: Fostering Algebraic Thinking ( 1 pm to 4 pm )

2013 Math for America San Diego CCSS Summer Institute

Math for America San Diego is offering the “2013 Mathematics Common Core Summer Institute” to promote better understanding of the Common Core State Standards for algebra.  The CCSS include eight mathematical practices, called Standards for Mathematical Practices.  The institute will focus on the connection between the CCSS content of algebra and these practices.  Participants will learn how to implement these practices as they teach algebra.  The institute supports teachers of Algebra 1 and Algebra 2.  Registration is open to all San Diego County middle and high school mathematics teachers, including pre-service and special education teachers.  The one-week institutes are June 17-21 or Aug. 12-16, 2013.  The cost is $575.  UC San Diego Extension credit is available for an additional fee.  For more information, contact Susan Millen at sandiego@mathforamerica.org.  Department teams are encouraged to attend!

NCSM Summer Leadership Academy

The 2013 NCSM Summer Leadership Academy will focus on formative assessment strategies and resources for the classroom and professional learning.  Participating mathematics leaders and their teachers will learn more about:
  • formative assessment as a powerful instructional tool,
  • resources that mathematics education leaders and teachers can use to help their systems grow in understanding and use of formative assessment strategies, and
  • how to use formative assessment to support implementation and prepare for assessment of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
